LES CIMENTERIES, PLATRIERES ET CARRIERES
Les plâtrières étaient déjà connues au moyen-âge. Deux étaient situées dans le Mantois. Sous Charles V (1370) l’une d’elle travaillait pour les fortifications de la ville.
A Rosny il y avait 2 fours

François Bernier 1853
A Mantes-la-Ville existaient 2 autres fours (1821/ 1823)

P Huve près de la route de Rosny
A Mantes-la-Jolie : dans l’ile de Limay construite en 1853 par DEFER dans le trou Fayol (ancienne piscine vigilante) et rue de la Pêcherie jusqu’en 1878.
1894, Antoine Bauchère invente le four droit appelé four français. Les composants du hangar (L90m H60m) de l’aéroport d’Orly (1901/ 1902) seront construits dans ce four.
Il existe des carrières de pierres dans le quartier de la cuvée de la Côte Mateau. Les pierres de moindre qualité ont servi, entre autres, à la construction des habitations de Mantes-la-Ville. Cette extraction est rapidement remplacée par des pierres en provenance de l’usine de Guerville qui étaient de meilleure qualité.
Dans les bois de Fresnel il y avait une carrière d’extraction de pierres meulières.
Charles DEMARLE, s’associe à d’autres industriels pour fonder en 1881 la Société des Ciments Français qui installe une usine à Guerville en 1890.
1896, construction d’une cheminée de grande hauteur à Guerville, l’usine est également la première à utiliser le Four Français de Bouchère.
1904, l’usine de Guerville devient la plus puissante du groupe. Elle est équipée de deux fours rotatifs.
1941, le siège des Ciments Français est transféré de Boulogne-sur-Mer à La Plagne (hameau de Guerville) dans l’ancien château. Ce dernier deviendra en mai 1988 le laboratoire de recherche du groupe sous le nom des Technodes.
En 1904 il y a 318 salariés, en 1978 il n’y en a plus que 173.
L’extraction ferme en mars 1984, il ne reste plus qu’un dépôt d’expédition.
Le chimiste CANDLOT qui sera à la tête de la cimenterie de Dennemont est l’inventeur du four du même nom. Il inventera également un ciment résistant aux eaux « séléniteuses »dans le laboratoire de Boulogne.
La cimenterie de Dennemont deviendra la cimenterie LAVOCAT.
Juillet 1903, dans les carrières de Gassicourt sont extraits des cailloux pour la construction du métro parisien.
De 1946 à 1975 période de reconstruction et développement économique, les cimenteries tournent bien. Mais à partir de 1975 et jusqu’en 1981 l’usine de Guerville doit réduire sa production puis cesser son activité. C’est le site d’extraction de Gargenville qui prendra le relai.
A Limay il y avait un four à chaux, un four à plâtre et une carrière de moellons à bâtir. Le moulin à vent de M. DUPUIS (à la cote 128) construit en 1770 aurait fonctionné jusqu’en 1870. Devenu filiale de « La tuilerie des Cordeliers » en 1892, il est racheté par CANDELOT en 1920 pour le convertir en cimenterie. Il deviendra successivement SEPIC (Société pour l’exploitation des procédés industriels Candelot), les ciments de Mantes. En 1933 la société anonyme des chaux et ciments Lafarge et du Theil prendra une part importante des actions pour devenir finalement en 1960 les Ciments Lafarge.
